SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is there a maximum number of students allowed to participate on a single team?
We have no maximum on the number of students allowed to participate. However, if an abstract is selected to present a full poster, the team will be limited to 10 minute on the presentation so that might dictate how many students actually present.
Is there a specific ratio required between undergraduate and postgraduate participants? No. This year, we have established separate categories for the contest. We plan to award cash prizes, separate prizes for undergraduate and graduate researcher (or team). If the team includes a graduate student researcher (not just as an adviser), it falls into the graduate category.
Are there any particular guidelines or formats that the poster must adhere to? Again, we have no strict guidelines but recommend the students select a format that is conducive to presenting the research results in 10 minutes or less.
CALL FOR STUDENT POSTERS
The Northeast Residuals & Biosolids CONFERENCE
Student Poster Contest
November 13, 2024 (1 - 3 pm EST)
The North East Biosolids & Residuals Association (NEBRA) is once again hosting a Student Poster Contest open to graduate and undergraduate students in any field of study with research related to:
PFAS Research and Impacts to Residuals programs
Anaerobic Digestion and other solids processes operations and improvements
Resource recovery from wastewater solids
Beneficial reuse of residual/biosolids for agriculture, silviculture, etc.
This online format gives us the opportunity this year to reach out well beyond the Northeast and solicit participation nationally, even internationally, and we welcome participation from students across the globe who are studying these important subjects.
Please Submit Abstracts Online by Monday, October 20, 2025. Go to www.nebiosolids.org/2025-student-poster-contest for more information about how to submit an abstract. Abstracts will be screened for relevance by NEBRA’s Research Committee and those selected to present a poster will be notified by October 24th. Students selected to present will be required to pre-record and upload their poster presentation (5-10 minutes long) by 8 am on Monday, November 10th. The recordings will be played on November 13th from 1 to 3 pm EST and the student(s) must be available at that time to answer questions from the Judges.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the students with the best poster presentations. There will be separate prizes for best graduate and undergraduate posters. Prize amounts will be determined based on the abstracts submitted.
The winners will be announced and recognized at the Northeast Residuals & Biosolids Conference in Worcester, Massachusetts, November 18th and 19th. The winner is welcome to join in person or virtually to be recognized. We plan to record and play the winning presentation for the conference attendees. Any questions can be emailed to janine@nebiosolids.org.
