NBP Biosolids Management Program (BMP) / Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

Some New England and eastern Canadian wastewater treatment facilities and biosolids management programs have developed - or are developing - Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for biosolids.  Most are based on the "Biosolids Management Program" (BMP) of the National Biosolids Partnership.  Others follow the standards set forth in ISO 14001.

• Bangor Wastewater Treatment Plant, Maine
• Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission, New Brunswick - NBP CERTIFIED, June 2010; maintaining annual Platinum Level re-certification, which requires annual 3rd-party re-verification audits.
• Lewiston-Auburn Water Pollution Control Authority, Maine - NBP CERTIFIED, July 2010; maintaining annual Platinum Level re-certification, which requires annual 3rd-party re-verification audits.
• Mechanic Falls Sanitary Treatment District, Maine 

Public Wastewater Utilities - ISO 14001 EMS

• Lowell Regional Wastewater Utility - ISO 14001 CERTIFIED, 1999

Private Biosolids Management Facilities - Biosolids EMS

• New England Organics - NBP CERTIFIED, January 2009; maintaining annual Platinum Level re-certification, which requires annual 3rd-party re-verification audits.
• Resource Management, Inc. - NBP CERTIFIED, November 2009; maintained annual Platinum Level re-certification into 2012, then was recognized at the new Gold Level Recognition level beginning October 9, 2012, which requires annual interim internal audits and 3rd-party re-verfication audits every 5 years.
  

NEBRA REGION EMS NEWS / UPDATES

Summer 2011.  NEBRA continues to support further development of NBP BMP/EMS programs across the continent.  NEBRA staff Ned Beecher is assisting the NBP with another class of BMP/EMS training.  Because it advances excellence in biosolids management, this ongoing program is in the interest of NEBRA, its members, and all biosolids management professionals.

September 23, 2010.  Lewiston Auburn Water Pollution Control Authority Celebrates Certification of its Biosolids EMS.  See NEBRA news story.

June 24, 2010.  Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission (GMSC) Achieves Certification by the National Biosolids Partnership for its Biosolids EMS.  See local news coverage.  NEBRA sent a letter of congratulations to GMSC Chairman Ronald LeBlanc and the staff of GMSC.

March 26, 2010.  Resource Management Inc. (RMI) Celebrates EMS Certification with an Open House at its New Offices.  See National Biosolids Partnership coverage, including letters of congratulations from WEF and NACWA.  NEBRA Executive Director Ned Beecher attended the celebration, providing congratulations from NEBRA.
